An Esperanto football team wants to qualify for the 2010 WorldCup in South Africa.

Initiators of the team are the artists Olof Olsson and Daniel Salomon who work together under the name La Loko. Olsson and Salomon will be in Berlin between Thursday 23 March and Monday 27 March to promote their project. Friday 24 March they will be available for interviews at Hotel Adlon.

Esperanto is an international language, which was devisedby Dr L. L. Zamenhof at the end of the 19th century. Hisintention was to create a neutral language, which was easy to learn,so that different speech communities could communicate instead offight.

La Loko means the place in Esperanto. LaLoko uses Esperanto in projects that reflect upon, language, culture,territory and economy. La Loko has previously recorded a pilotepisode of the world's first sitcom in Esperanto and initiatedthe Esperanto fast food chain Ovo.

By launching an Esperanto football team, La Loko offers players and fans football free from national chauvinism.

La Loko will be present in Germany during this year's World Cup and lobby FIFA directly, as well as its members andpartners.

This summer the Esperanto football team will play matches in Copenhagen (20 May), Reykjavik (17 June), and Sarajevo (12 August).

La Loko is currently working on arranging a match in Berlin inJuly.
